Intelli-Start IS1500 Lithium Jumpstarter – Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Product Overview

The Intelli-Start IS1500 is a 12V Lithium Iron Phosphate (LiFePO₄) jumpstarter designed for petrol and diesel vehicles. It delivers up to 1500A peak current, features Rapid Recharge Technology (RRT), and includes multiple safety protections to support modern vehicles with electronic management systems.

General Usage

What vehicles can the IS1500 be used on?

The IS1500 is designed only for 12V vehicles. It supports:

  • Petrol engines

  • Diesel engines
It must not be used on 24V systems or household dry-cell batteries.

How many jumpstarts can I get from a full charge?

With a fully charged unit:

  • 110 petrol / 21 diesel starts (vehicle without a battery)

  • 220 petrol / 110 diesel emergency jumpstarts (vehicle with a flat battery)

With 40 seconds of Rapid Recharge Technology (RRT) after each start, the IS1500 can deliver unlimited jumpstarts during a working day under normal conditions.

What is Rapid Recharge Technology (RRT)?

RRT allows the jumpstarter to recharge itself from the vehicle’s alternator after a successful start.
Leaving the clamps connected for 40 seconds restores the IS1500 to 100% charge, after which RRT automatically shuts off to prevent overcharging.

Charging & Battery Care

How long does it take to charge the IS1500?

  • Initial charge: up to 24 hours

  • Typical recharge (50% depleted): 4–6 hours using the docking station

The slower, cell-balanced charge is intentional—it extends battery life.

Should I leave the IS1500 on charge when not in use?

Yes. The IS1500 uses automatic maintenance charging, meaning it can be left on the docking station indefinitely without overcharging. This can extend battery life by 10–20%.

What does the Battery Status LED mean?

  • Green (solid): Fully charged, ready to use

  • Yellow (solid): Partially charged, usable but recharge recommended

  • Red (solid): Low charge, recharge required

  • Red (flashing): Critically low—charge immediately

Jumpstarting & Operation

Why won’t the IS1500 activate when connected?

Common reasons include:

  1. Vehicle battery voltage is below 2.6V

  2. Poor clamp connection

  3. Incorrect polarity

  4. Jumpstarter battery is too low

If the vehicle battery is below 2.6V and connections are correct, press and hold the Override button for 2 seconds to engage jumpstarting manually.

What does the alarm sound indicate?

  • Solid red LED / alarm: Reverse polarity or over-voltage detected

  • Flashing red LED / alarm: Short-circuit, overload, or over-temperature condition

Disconnect clamps, correct the issue, and retry.

Can the IS1500 be used in cold weather?

Yes, but performance is reduced below 0°C.
If starting fails, repeat the jumpstart 1–3 times—battery performance improves as the unit warms during use.

Technical Concepts (Plain English)

What is “Peak Amps”?

Peak Amps (1500A) is the maximum short-burst current the internal battery can produce. It’s not the continuous output.

What is “Clamp Output”?

Clamp Output (700A) is the actual usable current delivered to the vehicle battery during jumpstarting. This is the more relevant number for real-world starting capability.

Safety & Storage

Is the IS1500 safe for modern vehicles with ECUs?

Yes. The IS1500 includes:

  • Surge protection

  • Reverse polarity protection

  • Over/under-voltage protection

This makes it suitable for vehicles with EFI and computer-controlled systems.

How should I store the IS1500?

  • Storage temperature: -10°C to 45°C

  • Keep dry (not waterproof)

  • Avoid leaving it discharged

  • Store on the docking station when possible
