Overview

The Projecta LB100-HD is a 12.8V 100Ah LiFePO4 lithium battery designed for Intelli-GRID, RV, caravan, inverter and auxiliary power applications.

It provides high discharge capability, built-in state of charge monitoring, communication ports and local or remote battery isolation.

The LB100-HD is suitable for applications requiring high current output, including powering inverters up to 2000W, when installed correctly and used within the battery’s rated limits.

What is the LB100-HD used for?

Can the LB100-HD power an inverter?

Yes.
The manual states the LB100-HD has a 150A high discharge current and is suitable for powering up to 2000W inverters.

For larger inverter loads, multiple batteries may be required.

Does the LB100-HD need an external current shunt?

No.
The LB100-HD includes a built-in current shunt to provide accurate State of Charge, SOC.

This means an additional external current shunt is not required for supported Projecta monitoring systems.


Charging Requirements

What charger should be used?

Use a lithium-compatible charger suitable for LiFePO4 batteries.

The charger must match the battery’s required charging voltage and current limits.

What should not be used to charge the LB100-HD?

Do not charge the battery:

Above 14.6VDC continuously for more than 24 hours
Using a charger with automatic desulfation
Using an incompatible lead-acid-only charger
Using incorrect polarity
Using a damaged or modified charging system

Automatic desulfation modes are not suitable for LiFePO4 lithium batteries.


Battery Indicator and Switching

Does the battery have a built-in indicator?

Yes.
The LB100-HD includes a top-mounted battery indicator.

This allows the user to check battery status directly from the battery.

Can the battery be switched off?

Yes.
The LB100-HD includes a battery switch function.

The battery can be isolated locally or remotely, depending on the system setup.

This is useful when storing the vehicle or when the connected load will not be used for an extended period.

The LB100-HD has a built-in shunt, so no additional current shunt is required for supported monitoring.


Series and Parallel Connection

Can LB100-HD batteries be connected in series?

Yes.
The LB100-HD can be connected in series up to 4 batteries.

This can create:

48V 100Ah system

Can LB100-HD batteries be connected in parallel?

Yes.
The LB100-HD can be connected in parallel up to 4 batteries.

This can create:

12V 400Ah system

What must be done before connecting batteries together?

Before connecting batteries in series or parallel:

Fully charge all batteries.
Confirm all batteries are the same model.
Confirm all batteries are in good condition.
Confirm battery voltages are closely matched.
Use suitable cables, fuses and installation practices.
Follow the system wiring requirements.

How is continuous discharge current calculated in parallel?

When connecting batteries in parallel, the manual states that the discharge current can be added, but a discharge ratio of 0.75 must be applied.

Example:

2 x LB100-HD batteries in parallel
2 x 150A x 0.75 = 225A continuous discharge current

For a 3000W inverter, the manual recommends 3 x LB100-HD batteries, giving approximately 338A continuous discharge current.


Safety Warnings

What safety precautions should be followed?

Before installing or using the LB100-HD:

Do not short-circuit the battery.
Do not reverse polarity.
Do not disassemble the battery.
Do not deform or modify the battery.
Do not charge above 14.6VDC continuously for more than 24 hours.
Do not use a charger with automatic desulfation.
Store the battery in a cool, dry and well-ventilated area.
Charge the battery at least every 6 months, or when voltage drops below 12.8VDC.
Ensure the battery is fully discharged before proper disposal.
Keep terminals clean and secure.
Protect the battery from impact, crushing or damage during transport.


Storage and Maintenance

How should the LB100-HD be stored?

Store the battery:

In a cool, dry and well-ventilated area
Away from moisture
Away from direct heat sources
Away from flammable materials
Protected from impact or crushing

How often should the battery be recharged during storage?

To maintain battery life, recharge the battery fully every 3 to 6 months.

The warning section also states to charge the battery at least every 6 months or when voltage drops below 12.8VDC.

What should be done if the system will not be used for a long time?

If the connected load will not be used for an extended period:

Disconnect the battery from the load, or
Turn the battery OFF using the battery switch

This helps prevent battery discharge and over-discharge.

What maintenance is required?

Regularly check:

Battery terminals are clean
Terminal screws are secure
Battery case is not damaged
Cables are correctly connected
Communication cables are secure
Battery indicator operates normally
No signs of overheating, swelling or physical damage are present


Common Troubleshooting

The battery will not power the system. What should I check?

Check the following:

Battery switch is ON.
Battery voltage is above discharge cut-off.
Battery terminals are clean and tight.
Positive and negative cables are connected correctly.
Main fuse or circuit breaker is not blown or tripped.
Connected load does not exceed the battery rating.
Battery protection has not activated.
Communication cables are connected correctly if used with Intelli-GRID components.


The inverter shuts down or will not run. What should I check?

Check the following:

Inverter size does not exceed the battery capability.
Battery State of Charge is sufficient.
Battery voltage is not below cut-off.
Inverter surge current is not exceeding the battery peak rating.
Battery cables are correctly sized.
Cable connections are tight.
Fuse or circuit breaker rating is suitable.
Multiple batteries are used for larger inverter loads where required.

A single LB100-HD is suitable for up to 2000W inverter applications as stated in the manual.


The battery voltage is low. What should I do?

Recharge the battery using a suitable LiFePO4 charger.

If the battery voltage has dropped below 12.8VDC during storage, recharge the battery before further use.

If the battery does not recover, stop using it and contact Projecta support.


The battery will not charge. What should I check?

Check the following:

Charger is suitable for LiFePO4 batteries.
Charge voltage is correct.
Charger is not in desulfation mode.
Charger output polarity is correct.
Battery switch is ON if required by the system.
Battery terminals are clean and tight.
Battery temperature is within operating range.
Battery protection has not activated.

Do not continue charging if the battery becomes hot, swollen, damaged or behaves abnormally.


The SOC reading does not look correct. What should I check?

Check the following:

Battery has completed a full charge cycle.
The built-in shunt is supported by the connected monitor or display.
Communication cables are connected correctly.
Battery monitor settings are correct.
Multiple battery configuration has been set up correctly.

If using the optional LBM-BT, confirm the monitor is connected correctly and reading the correct battery.


Can the battery be used while charging?

Yes, if the system is designed correctly and all charge and discharge limits are observed.

The connected load and charger must not exceed the battery’s current limits or system wiring limits.


Protection Features

Installation Notes

What should be checked during installation?

Before installation:

Confirm battery polarity.
Use suitable cable size for the load current.
Use suitable fuses or circuit protection.
Secure the battery using the mounting feet.
Ensure terminals are clean and tight.
Confirm the battery location is dry and well ventilated.
Ensure the battery is protected from impact.
Confirm the connected charger is suitable for LiFePO4 batteries.

Is the LB100-HD waterproof?

No.
The LB100-HD has an IP20 rating.

It should be installed in a protected indoor or enclosed location where it will not be exposed to water or moisture.


When to Escalate

Escalate the case if:

The battery will not charge after charger and wiring checks.
The battery will not power a load after fuse, switch and wiring checks.
The battery case is swollen, cracked, deformed or damaged.
The battery has been short-circuited or reverse connected.
The battery has been exposed to water.
The customer reports smoke, burning smell, abnormal heat or sparking.
