Overview

The Projecta EVC7KW is a portable Type 2 EV charger designed for electric vehicle charging only.

The charger supports selectable current settings and can charge at different power levels depending on the plug, supply connection and available circuit capacity.

The EVC7KW is compatible with 10A, 15A and 32A plug options, allowing charging at approximately 2.4kW, 3.6kW or 7kW. The 10A and 15A plugs are included with the EVC7KW, while the 7kW plug must be purchased separately as part number EVC7KW-HP.

Charging Compatibility

What vehicles can the EVC7KW charge?

The EVC7KW is designed for electric vehicles with a compatible Type 2 charging inlet.

The charger should only be used for EV charging.

Can the EVC7KW be used for anything other than EV charging?

No.
The manual states the charger must only be used for EV charging and must not be used for any other purpose.

What plug options are supported?

The charger is compatible with:

10A plug
15A plug
32A plug

The 10A and 15A plugs are included with the EVC7KW.
The 32A / 7kW plug must be purchased separately as EVC7KW-HP.

Actual charging performance may depend on the vehicle, plug type, power supply and circuit capacity.

Can the charging current be changed after charging starts?

No.
Once the charger has started charging, the charging current cannot be changed.

This helps prevent the charger from being tampered with after the charging session has started.


Safety Warnings

What safety precautions should be followed?

Before using the EVC7KW:

Only use the charger for EV charging.
Do not use the charger if it is damaged.
Do not attempt to open, modify or repair the charger yourself.
Do not disconnect the charger while it is actively charging.
Follow the user manual before use.
Inspect the charger regularly for visible damage.
Do not modify, retrofit or alter any part of the charger.
Do not use near volatile gases or flammable atmospheres.
Avoid misuse such as dropping or immersing the charger.
Confirm the input voltage, frequency and circuit breaker are suitable before use.
Do not use the device if it does not operate correctly.
Plug directly into a suitable socket outlet.
Do not use an adapter unless it is part of the product and meets the required standard.
Ensure the charger remains off the ground during normal use.

What should be checked before charging?

Before charging, confirm:

Socket outlet is suitable for the selected current.
Supply voltage is within range.
Circuit protection is suitable.

The charger is not exposed to unsafe conditions.


How to Use

Starting a charge

  1. Connect the power cord to the supply mains.
  2. Press the button to select the required charge current: 6A, 10A, 15A or 32A.
  3. Wait for the charger display to confirm the selected setting.
  4. Connect the Type 2 charging connector to the vehicle.
  5. The charger will detect the vehicle and begin charging when the EV requests charging.

Important operation note

The current setting must be selected after the charger is plugged into the AC outlet and before the charger handle is connected to the vehicle.

If the current is not selected before connecting to the vehicle, the charger may not function as expected or may default to the previous setting.

Finishing a charge

  1. Remove the charging lead from the EV once the vehicle releases the connector.
  2. Remove the AC mains plug from the socket to turn the charger off.
  3. Replace the rubber cover over the Type 2 EV connector.
  4. Pack away the charger and store it in the EVA bag.

Display and Operation

What does the display show?

The display can show:

Selected current
Vehicle connection status
Charging status
Charging time or timer information
Error indication if a fault is detected

Why can’t I change the current after charging starts?

The charger locks the selected current once charging begins.

This is normal operation and prevents the charge setting from being changed after the user leaves the charging session.


Common Troubleshooting

The charger does not start charging. What should I check?

Check the following:

The charger is connected to mains power.
The correct charge current was selected before connecting to the vehicle.
The Type 2 connector is fully inserted into the EV.
The vehicle is ready to accept charge.
The socket outlet is suitable for the selected current.
The input voltage is within range.
No error code is displayed.
The charging cable and connectors are not damaged.
The plug and socket are not loose, dirty or overheated.


The charger shows an error. What should I do?

Stop using the charger and check the displayed error code.

Follow the recovery action listed in the error code section. If the error remains, contact Projecta support or a qualified electrician.


The charger trips power or stops charging. What should I check?

Possible causes include:

Supply circuit not suitable for selected current
Over-current condition
Earth leakage fault
Damaged cable or connector
Loose socket connection
Over-temperature protection
Vehicle charging issue

Reduce the selected current if the supply circuit is not rated for the higher current setting.

If the issue continues, stop using the charger and have the power supply checked by a qualified electrician.


The plug or adapter becomes hot. What should I do?

Stop charging and allow the plug and adapter to cool.

Check that:

Plug is connected firmly.
Socket is not loose or damaged.
Contacts are clean.
The selected current is suitable for the socket outlet.
There is no visible damage or melting.

Do not continue using the charger if there are signs of heat damage.


Can I use an extension lead?

The manual does not recommend using adapters unless they are part of the product and meet the required standard.

For safety, connect the charger directly to a suitable fixed socket outlet.


Error Codes

E1 — Over Temperature Fault 1

Recommended action:

Wait for the charger to cool down and ensure the operating temperature returns to normal.


E2 — Over Temperature Fault 2

Recommended action:

Wait for the charger to cool down and ensure the operating temperature returns to normal.


E3 — Over Current Fault 1

Recommended action:

Stop charging and wait for 30 seconds, or unplug the charger connector.


E4 — Over Current Fault 2

Recommended action:

Turn the charger off and on again.


E5 — Earth Leakage Fault

Recommended action:

Check there is no earth leakage from the charger output cord.
Check the power cord and connectors for damage.


E6 — RCD Self-Checking Fault

Recommended action:

Check there is no earth leakage from the charger output cord.
Check the power cord and connectors for damage.


E7 — Under Voltage Fault

Recommended action:

Confirm the charger input voltage is above 180V.


E8 — Over Voltage Fault

Recommended action:

Confirm the charger input voltage is below 265V.


E9 — Relay Breaking Fault

Recommended action:

Contact Projecta support.


E10 — Relay Making Fault

Recommended action:

Contact Projecta support.


E11 — Plug Over-Temperature Fault 1

Recommended action:

Wait for the cord plug and adapter to cool.
Confirm they are connected firmly.
Check for loose or dirty connections.


E12 — Plug Over-Temperature Fault 2

Recommended action:

Wait for the cord plug and adapter to cool.
Confirm they are connected firmly.
Check for loose or dirty connections.


E13 — Ground Fault

Recommended action:

Confirm the charger ground conductor is earthed firmly.
Check the power cord and connectors for damage.


E14 — CP Voltage Fault

Recommended action:

Check that the CP cable is not broken or shorted to ground.
Check for damage to the cables and connectors.


E15 — CP Diode Fault

Recommended action:

Check that the CP cable and connectors are not damaged.
Check the vehicle if required.


E24 — Cabinet NTC Fault

Recommended action:

Contact Projecta support.


E25 — Plug NTC Fault

Storage and Maintenance

To maintain the charger:

Store the charger in the EVA bag when not in use.
Keep the charger clean and dry.
Inspect the cable, plug and Type 2 connector before use.
Keep connector covers fitted when stored.
Do not store with heavy objects on the cable.
Do not use if the cable, plug, connector or housing is damaged.
Keep the charger away from flammable gases, corrosive materials and water immersion.


When to Escalate

Escalate the case if:

The charger shows repeated errors after basic checks.
The charger, plug, cable or connector is damaged.
There are signs of overheating, melting or burning smell.
The charger trips the supply repeatedly.
Earth leakage, RCD, CP, relay, NTC or CC faults are displayed.
The vehicle does not release the connector.
The charger does not operate according to the manual.
Warranty assessment is required.
