Connecting the PMLVL Level Sensor to a Projecta Compact System

Product: Projecta Compact System
Component: PMLVL Caravan Level Sensor
Last Updated: May 2026

Summary

This article explains how to connect and configure the Projecta PMLVL level sensor on a Compact system. Compact systems do not include a 4-way RJ45 hub by default, so an additional hub must be purchased and installed before the sensor can be connected.

Issue

When attempting to plug the PMLVL level sensor into a free port on the existing 10-way RJ45 hub, the sensor receives no power and does not function.

Root Cause: The PMLVL level sensor requires connection to a 4-way RJ45 hub (not the 10-way hub directly) to receive power. Projecta Compact systems are not supplied with this hub — it must be added separately.

The PMLVL sensor is available from most major automotive retailers that stock Projecta products, as well as online. The IGRJ45HUB-4 hub can be ordered through the same channels.

Installation Steps

Step 1 — Add the 4-Way Hub

Purchase and install the IGRJ45HUB-4 4-way RJ45 hub.

Step 2 — Rewire the Solar Controller Communications Cable

  1. Locate the comms cable currently running from your SC540 solar controller into the 10-way hub.
  2. Unplug this cable from the 10-way hub.
  3. Plug it into the 4-way hub — this provides power to the 4-way hub.

Step 3 — Connect the 4-Way Hub to the 10-Way Hub

Connect the 4-way hub back into the 10-way hub using the port previously used by the SC540.

Step 4 — Connect the Level Sensor

Plug the PMLVL sensor's RJ45 cable into one of the free ports on the 4-way hub. The sensor should now receive power.

Step 5 — Mount the Sensor

Mount the PMLVL sensor in a central location on the caravan. The sensor can be mounted vertically or horizontally — the orientation is configured in software during calibration.

Software Configuration

Accessing Engineering Settings

The level sensor is configured through a hidden engineering menu.

  1. Open the Projecta app and navigate to Settings.
  2. In the settings list, tap on the blank space at the bottom of the list.
  3. When prompted, enter the password: 1000

Enabling and Calibrating the Sensor

  1. Go to Xensor → Level.
  2. Set the sensor's orientation (vertical or horizontal, matching your mounting).
  3. Place the caravan on level ground and run calibration — this sets the current position as the 0 reference point.

Notes

  • The 10-way hub alone does not supply power to the PMLVL sensor — the 4-way hub is required as an intermediary.
  • Do not use a standard RJ45 double adaptor as a substitute for the 4-way hub.
  • If the sensor does not appear in settings after connection, check that the 4-way hub is correctly powered via the SC540 comms cable.
