IDC50X Charger Flashing Lights ON and OFF

IDC50X DC Charger Lights Flashing on and Off – FAQ

Why are the lights on my IDC50X flashing on and off?

If the IDC50X lights come on for a few seconds, turn off, and then repeat every 10 seconds or so, the charger may be stuck in a startup or protection loop.

This can happen when the charger is trying to initialise but cannot stabilise due to a temporary configuration, communication, wiring, or battery detection issue.

Does this mean the IDC50X charger is faulty?

Not always.

In many cases, this behaviour does not mean the charger has failed. The charger may simply need to be reset so it can clear its temporary internal state and restart correctly.

However, if the issue continues after completing the reset and checking the wiring, further inspection may be required.

What should I try first?

Perform a full reset of the IDC50X charger.

  1. Power off the charger completely.
  2. Press and hold the power button.
  3. Keep holding the power button for at least 10 seconds.
  4. Release the button.
  5. Wait 10–15 seconds for the charger to reboot.
  6. Reconnect the charger and check if the lights stay on.

Why does holding the power button for 10 seconds help?

Holding the power button for around 10 seconds performs a deeper reset of the charger’s internal control system.

This can clear temporary startup states and allow the charger to re-check the battery and system setup from a clean condition.

When is this reset most useful?

The reset is especially useful after:

  • Replacing or reconnecting a battery.
  • Moving the charger to a different setup.
  • Changing from one load setup to another, such as a fridge system to a drawer system.
  • Reconnecting the charger after a power interruption.
  • Making wiring or earth connection changes.
  • Bypassing or reconnecting shunts or monitoring devices.

My battery is fully charged. Can this still happen?

Yes.

Even if the battery appears fully charged through Bluetooth or another monitoring system, the charger may still detect a temporary startup condition or configuration mismatch.

A full reset can help the charger reinitialise correctly.

Could wiring still be the issue?

Yes.

Even if the wiring appears unchanged from a previous working setup, it is still worth checking all connections.

Check that:

  • Positive and negative connections are clean and tight.
  • The earth/ground connection is secure.
  • Fuses are seated correctly and are not blown.
  • Cable crimps are secure.
  • There is no corrosion or loose terminal contact.
  • Non-essential accessories are temporarily disconnected during testing.

Should I bypass the shunt during testing?

If the reset does not resolve the issue, temporarily bypassing non-essential accessories such as shunts or monitoring devices can help isolate the cause.

This does not mean the shunt is faulty. It is simply a troubleshooting step to confirm whether the charger behaves normally with a simplified setup.

What should happen after a successful reset?

After the reset, the charger lights should remain on and the IDC50X should resume normal operation.

If charging conditions are suitable, the unit should begin charging as expected.

What if the lights continue flashing after the reset?

If the lights continue cycling on and off after the reset, complete the following checks:

  • Confirm battery voltage is within the acceptable operating range.
  • Check all wiring and earth connections.
  • Inspect fuses and fuse holders.
  • Remove non-essential loads.
  • Temporarily bypass accessories such as shunts or monitors.
  • Check for damaged cables, loose terminals, or poor crimps.

If the issue still remains, the charger may require further technical assessment.

How can I prevent this from happening again?

To reduce the chance of recurrence:

  • Reset the charger after major system changes.
  • Allow the battery system to stabilise before reconnecting the charger.
  • Ensure all connections are secure before powering the charger.
  • Check earth and fuse connections during installation.
  • Avoid reconnecting the charger immediately after a power interruption.
